Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
I understand your concerns.
-The weight gain and mood changes seen in your child can be due to the current medical treatment of steroids he is receiving. They usually improve once the dose of steroids is reduced and gradually stopped.
-The speech deterioration seen in your child is due to the course of landau kleffner syndrome. In the typical case, a child between 3 and 7 years of age experiences language problems, with or without seizures.
-Seizures are usually few and often occur during sleep. Poor control can lead to further deterioration of speech. Clobazam and levetiracetam are good alternative drugs to epilex for controlling seizures which you can discuss with your doctor.
Multiple subpial transections (MSTs) have been used with variable success in patients with landau kleffner syndrome.
Hopefully this will help you. In case of any further questions, you may contact me.
Take care.

Plz help me explain this line further : "Multiple subpial transections (MSTs) have been used with variable success in patients with landau kleffner syndrome".
Thx !
Dear Doctor please address this line : " he passes urine & potty too with out telling / hinting. Are these the side effects of Wysolone and will they pass off and child will normalise once the medication is stopped altogether ? " Thx !
wait before opting for mutiple subpial transection
Detailed Answer:
Multiple subpial transections is a new modality of treatment for Landau Kleffner Syndrome, in which multiple small slices are made in brain cortex. This helps to halt the seizure discharge spreading in the cortex which may improve both the EEG abnormalities and the language disorder in a small number of children. This procedure is still being studied in various epilepsy centers.
I would recommend you to wait for the response of medications first and in case the favourable response doesn't come, you may opt for this.
The problem with poops and pee is not a known side effect of wysolone. It seems to be due to the communication skill deterioration from the disease per se. Hopefully this will improve with further toilet training and proper control of seizures.
Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help. If you do not have any clarifications, you can close the discussion and rate the answer.
Wish you good health for your child.
Take care
