Posted on Wed, 14 Oct 2015
Question: Hello XXXX,
I am looking at trying GHB/Xyrem for sleep. I have CFS/ Fibro, have been using lorazepam and Ambien in small doses. I never get enough sleep and am sleepy on and off during the day, and often cant got to sleep at bedtime. 8 months ago I was diagnosed with Parkinsons DIsease. No meds for it as yet, except Low Dose Naltrexone at 3.5mg at bedtime. What do you think ?

Brief Answer:
No I think you should try duloxetine.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for posting your query on HCM.

Well looking into your query I will like to tell you that you should talk to your doctor regarding using duloxetine or amitryptylline for CFS . They have a very good response and it also improves the sleep pattern which is troubling you . Zolpidem will not work for your CFS . So you should consider the option of this drug .

Take care.

Duloxetine is for pain and depression. I don't need medication for either. I need sleep medication that will restore deep, refreshing sleep. I am sure you have a reason for nixing Xyrem and suggesting duloxetine. Please explain.

Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam,

Thank you for reverting back.

Well Xyrem is not a medication to induce sleep , it has a different mechanism and improves sleep architecture . In your case your sleep disruption is related to Fibromyalgia , so we need to treat that first and it will subsequently store the cycle again for which duloxetine is the treatment of choice and people respond wonderfully to that . You can find about it on www. rheumatology.org patient information .So I suggested you that.
