Can Zifi Dose Be Given To A 3-month-old Baby When The Baby Feels Fuzzy And Shouts After Taking This Medicine?
Question: Hi can a 3 month baby be given a 2.5 ml of zifi 50 mg dose twice day.. i feel like she feels fussy after taking this medicine.. she shouts like aaahhhh aaahhhhh with her tongue out.. she is doing this only for the past two days from when i started this medicine.. is this the side effect of this medicine..
Brief Answer:
Please let me know the body weight of the baby
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I do not think that it is a side effect of the medicine. Rather, her crying out could be due to disliking the taste.
Please let me know the body weight of the baby and I will let you know if the dose is appropriate.
I would await your response.

Her weight is 6.4 kg.. also she is not making that sound while tking that medicine.. she is doing like that after an hr of consumption
Brief Answer:
Thanks for the update
Detailed Answer:
3ml Zifi needs to be given twice daily. It is possible that the antibiotics are killing off the normal bacterial flora of the intestines and this in turn in causing a change in the taste perception. It is possible that the child is behaving like this due to alteration in taste.

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation during episodes of cough and cold are important
Detailed Answer:
Most often ear infection in children is due to episodes of cough and cold. There is a thin tube on each side connecting between the inner throat and the middle ear (Eustachian tubes). The purpose of these tubes is to equalize the air pressure inside the middle ear cavity. When we catch a cold (most often due to viral and/or allergic cause), the respiratory secretions or mucus gets thickened. Mucus block of these tubes leads to pressure imbalance leading to indirectly affecting the middle ear cavity, thus leading to ear infections.
You need to give steam inhalation to your child. It helps in reducing the congestion and thereby the cough. Just sit with the child on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapor will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. Water vapor will reach deep inside and would help in diluting the cough and thus would provide relief.
Avoid feeding in the lying position as that can lead to aspiration. This is unrelated to eustachian tube.
