Can Zithromax Be Taken For Chlamydial Infection?

Question: Hi, i am living with HIV and on Atripla, i also take bactrim. I have recently developed anal chlamydia, can i safely take medication for this? I was prescribed Zithromax, is this the best i can take? can i take this in combination with what am already taking?

I understand your concern and situation.
I understand you are taking efavirenz/ emtricitabine/ tenofovir and sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Now you have developed anal chlamydia. Yes you can safely take azithromycin.
You shouldn't have sex including vaginal, oral or anal sex even with a condom until both you and your partner have completed treatment.Some people experience side effects during treatment, but these are usually mild need not worry and don't stop treatment. The most common side effects include tummy pain, diarrhoea and feeling sick. You must complete the antibiotics course as prescribed. Take multivitamins supplements. Get regular counseling and evaluation done to rule out any possibility of infections.

Thank you for this. This is helpful and reassuring in this part of the world where such conversation with your medical practitioner is not easy. I have been to the pharmacy today and got Azithromycin ( Azicure 500). My doctor had said i should take a single dose medication, now with Azicure 500 i have 3 pills in the pack. Reading the posology it recommends taking a 2g single dose. Is this correct? Does this mean i need to take 4 pills at once?
