Can Zofran Cause Birth Defects During Pregnancy?
Question: Hi
I just found out I was pregnant this week. My last period started 12th of Sep so for timing purposes I'm just over 4 weeks. Although I'm most likely only 2-3 weeks. Yesterday I started feeling nauseous around lunch time and by 6pm I was throwing up constantly until reaching the bile stage. My husband called for a home doctor who arrived at 3pm. He advised that it was most likely gastro and not morning sickness. He then prescribed 4mg of Zofran. I unfortunately took this without thinking and stopped feeling sick about 20mins later. This morning when I woke up I looked up Zofran and become increasing alarmed at the reports it can cause birth defects. I only took 1 dose of the 4mg but I've been making myself sick with worry. The reports also indicate it shouldn't be taken before 8-10 weeks as 0-8 is crucial development stage. Can you please advise if I have serious cause for alarm here.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I understand your concerns.
Yes. Zofran does cause birth defects and not recommended in pregnancy.
But taking one or 2 doses will not affect the baby and baby is like likely to be fine.
I suggest you stop worrying about it and continue the pregnancy.
Let me know if you need anymore help.
Regards
