Can Zoloft And Imipramine Be Taken Together?

Thank you for replying to my earlier question, and then asking for an update. Here is my predicament and what I am doing about it: I had been taking Imipramine for many years after a divorce knocked me for a loop. It was doing the job. But then my insurance company started billing me for thousands of dollars for this med, so my PCP put me on Zoloft (Sertraline.) Unfortunately, Zoloft had the effect of preventing me from reaching an orgasm. I am 67 yo, but still have an active sex life. So what I wound up doing was getting Imipramine from another source (cheaply) and alternating 100 mgs Imipramine with 100 mgs. Zoloft on an every-other-day basis. This has been working, and I haven't had any negative side effects.(I've been doing this for about three weeks now.) My question for you is: May I be causing myself some harm? Thank you very much. XXXXXXX
There is no harm if you continue your treatment regimen as it is.
Detailed Answer:
Mr. XXXX!
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you once again here at my virtual clinic.
I have carefully worked through your case, and can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I will take care all of your medical concerns.
I feel sorry for the inconvenience you had to face due to the high prices and Insurance coverage issues for your medications.
I am happy to know that your treatment regimen is working good for you. Not only the main problem of depression is covered well by these medications, but also the issue of reaching an orgasm is resolved to the extent of not bothering you anymore. So, having said that and keeping in front of me the whole clinical scenario you have, I will suggest you to carry on with this medication regimen. The only concern I have is, don't take both the medication at a time (concomitantly) because they both have the same final result (they both raise the levels of serotonin in the brain and alleviate the symptoms of depression).
Final Suggestion:-
Keep up with alternating on every other day basis of taking Zoloft and Imipramine. Mr. XXXXXXX you are not causing any harm to yourself until unless you don't take both the drugs same day.
Have a wonderful time ahead. Hope I answered all of your questions. Let me know if you have any further clinical concerns. I will be happy to get back to you shortly. If satisfied here, please give a five star rating and don't forget to close the discussion.
Regards!
