Can A 43 Year Old Woman With History Of Miscarriages Conceive?
You need to be investigated to find the cause for miscarriages
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to Healthcare Magic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani.
I appreciate your concerns.
How long have you been married? How many miscarriages you have had? And at what age? Have you been investigated for this?
The known causes for repeated miscarriage are:
1. Genetic causes-2-4% of cases. have have at anytime tested babies chromosomes after miscarriage?
2. Anotomical abnormalities 10-15%- Fibroid uterus, uterine polyp, congenital uterine anomolies like uterine septum etc
3. Endocrine causes 20%- Diabetes, thyroid disease, Polycystic ovarian disease can all cause repeated miscarraiges
4. Inherited blood clotting diseases,
5. Autoimmune diseases of which antiphospholipid disease is common.
Age above 40, Obesity are also contributing factors.
So it is important that you consult consultant Obstetrician to investigate the cause. If cause is found, treatment can be directed to it. In about 50% of cases even after investigating no cause can be found. Don't worry. In either case you are more likely to have successful pregnancy to term in the next time than to miscarry again.
If no cause is found you need to take progesterone support in next pregnancy.
I hope this is helpful.
If you have any further concerns I will be happy to answer.
Best wishes,
Dr Rama
