Can A Car Injury Cause Essential Tremor?

Question: Is it possible for essential tremor to be caused by trauma after being hit by a car
Brief Answer:
In rare cases is possible.
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HCM.
I have read your question and understand your concerns.
Yes, it is possible in rare cases that tremor may be caused by injury of the brain (small brain or cerebellum more exactly), but usually there are present other symptoms of brain injury too.
It is necessary for the tremor to start in the first day after trauma in order to suspect such connection.
A correct diagnosis is achieved by having done a neurological examination and brain imaging such MRI.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Greetings.

I was knocked down by a car with no head injury just a broken leg and shoulder I had full mri roughly 10 years later for something unrelated and the neurologist has made the connection to the accident as there is no family history off tremors
Brief Answer:
If no brain injury, no relationship to trauma.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome back.
If there was no moderate to severe head and brain injury, trauma is very unlikely to be related to tremor.
This is enforced by MRI findings, if there weren't cerebellar damages found.
Heredity is an important factor in tremor problems, but cases with no heredity also are known to develop it.
Hope I helped you.
Take care.
