Can A Child Take Liv 52 When Diagnosed With Hyperthyroid Autoimmune?

Liv 52 is a herbal medicine with relatively few side effects
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
First of all, Ayurvedic medicines are considered generally free from side-effects. However, the reality is that some of these medicines do contain active herbal ingredients that have hormonal properties. I would, therefore, be very cautious before using any such medicines for your relative's daughter.
I am unable to understand why a 7-year old child would need Liv 52 or complexion-changing medicines at all. Perhaps, you would care to elaborate further. I imagine she is overweight. Is that why you have asked about taking medicines to reduce weight? I do not think that a 7-year old should EVER take weight-reducing medicines, whether allopathic, Ayurvedic or any other kind.
Do please check with the child's parent and revert to me with some more details about her underlying condition, what exact medicines she is using and some investigation results.
Thank you. I will await your response very keenly.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Your niece has hyperthyroidism and has an autoimmune condition. This means that her body is forming stimulating antibodies against her own thyroid gland, and these antibodies are causing her to have the symptoms of an over-functioning thyroid gland.
Fortunately, the medicines the doctors will give for the above problem should make her stop losing weight over the next few months and she may even regain the lost weight. I am not too sure the pigmentation is also due to the hyperthyroidism, though, and I would perhaps ask her doctor to check this out.
Sometimes, children with autoimmune gland conditions may also have a dysfunction of other endocrine glands, and one in particular, the adrenal glands, may cause difficulties of pigmentation, especially if they are under-functioning. I would, therefore, ask her doctor to look for hypo-adrenocortism (a rare condition that causes pigmentation among other things).
In reply to your pointed query on what can be done for auto-immune conditions, I would simply say to stick with what the doctors prescribe. Different autoimmune conditions are tackled differently, and it is outside the scope of this answer to go through them all. However, I can say that autoimmunity can be controlled with the right medicines.
Please do revert to me if you need more clarification.
With best wishes,
Dr Taher
