Can A Colon Resection And Chemotherapy Cause Diarrhea?
Question: I get very watery diarrhea after my chemo treatments but it lasts until my next chemo. Am I right in thinking it is not the cause of my chemo? What could be causing this? I did have 2 1/2 feet of my colon taken out. Could this be the problem? I did have Crohn's for 45 years before my cancer was diagnosed.
Brief Answer:
Probable cause explained
Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome.
Yes, this is most likely caused by a combination of chemotherapy and colon resection since both conditions lead to colon mucosal disorder and absorption disorder.
It is important to have probiotics, high fibre food, eat smaller meals and avoid foods that cause bloating and also to avoid the sweets. You can also take Loperamide in severe cases. If there isn't any improvement despite this, you should have stool microscopic and parasitic analysis as well as food allergy testing.
