default
Posted on Wed, 27 Apr 2016
Question: I received an ultrasound which showed no abnormalities or stones but I have pain in the abdominal area and in the lower back. I also had microscopic blood in my urine a couple of weeks ago but no infection. Went to the ER and had a Ct scan which says there is a possibility of a nonobstructing stone in right ureter

Brief Answer:
Non Obstructing stone can cause pain when gets impacted while moving down

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that you have been detected to have small non obstructing stone in your ureter and had pain in abdomen and lower back .

At the outset let me state that the pain in abdomen is never due to stone per se .It is the distention of ureter and kidney (Hydroureteronephrosis) that occurs due to impaction of the stone in ureter causing obstruction to urine flow from kidney into bladder that gives rise to pain .

It is possible to get pain when even a small stone gets impacted causing edema at 3 narrowest sites in the ureter .

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.
