Can An Endometrial Ablation Cause Hormonal Imbalance And Weight Gain?
Question: I had an endometrial ablation done a year and a half ago. I have since gained 22 pounds and continue to gain. I have never had a weight issue or weighed this much. Most of the weight is around my belly and thighs, it looks as if I'm pregnant. There has been no change in my diet, I eat a very clean gluten-free diet of lean meats and vegetables with only healthy fats. I've never weighed this much before this was done and I've never carried weight around my stomach. It feels very jiggly like water weight, but won't budge. Does destroying the endometrium affect hormones? Could this be a hormonal imbalance?Thank you.
Brief Answer:
No
Detailed Answer:
Sorry to learn about your relatively recent weight gain incidentally after the endometrial ablation.
This procedure is not known to affect hormones. There are no published scientific reports, to the best of my knowledge, that suggest that weight gain after endometrial ablation is followed by weight gain.
I see your TSH is normal.
I am sure you must have had routine labs done too such as CBC and CMP.
There is a rare condition called Cushings syndrome. I see you are waiting to be referred to an endocrinologist. (S)He will likely consider this possibility and test appropriately for it.
Cushings syndrome can also cause weight gain particularly in the midriff area.
