Can Anaesthetic Technique During Hysterectomy Impact Serious Health Conditions?

default
Posted on Tue, 12 Jan 2016
Question: I have to undergo surgery for a hysterectomy. I am very nervous. I had IV "twilight" anesthesia to remove wisdom teeth 12 years ago and seemed to do just fine. If I did ok with that, does that mean I should be ok with general anesthesia?

Brief Answer:
It will be absolutely fine you have no reason to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
As long as you dont have any other diseases or co-morbidities like Hypertension, Diabetes, heart disease, etc there is no need to worry about the procedure.
As for the anaesthesia part, it will depend on whether you are undergoing an Open or a Laparsocopic surgery as also what the Anaesthetist is comfortable in giving you.
Im sure he/ she will give you time to understand the same and probably choose what anaesthesia you would prefer after they have explained to you the various options.
Please do not worry it is a fairly routine procedure and the risks entailed would be explained to you which are not very common but still is always our job to explain to the patient all the possibilities.
Take care,
