Can Anxiety Cause Hypertension?
Yes, anxiety increases BP
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question. Welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Actually, it is well-known that anxiety can cause "spikes" of blood pressure figures in every human being. It is the psychological factor that activates high levels of adrenalin in the circulation which, among others, constricts the blood vessels, thus producing high blood pressure figures. My opinion is also that you do not have high blood pressure or hypertension as a condition. It is more anxiety-induced blood pressure.
My recommendation would be that you keep exercising. In many studies, it was pointed out that exercise and various forms of physical activity, have a strong positive impact on the physical and psychological component. Furthermore, I would not recommend you to confine only in push-ups, rather encourage you to have a regular, 60-minute-a-day, programme of physical activity and, also, "mixing it up", between fast walking, running, biking, swimming and gym.
I hope this answers your question. I am happy to help, if you have follow-up questions.
Best regards,
Dr. Meriton
