Can Canned Salmon Increase Levels Of Selenium?

I don't take vitamins, except for 3000 units of D3 (my doctor said to cut it back to 2000 units (vitamin d, 25 hydroxy is 53.5)
My PSA was 3.08. In the 6 month previous, I was eating one egg per day, and drinking one glass of milk. I eat a lot of canned wild salmon--practically my only meat.
Thus, one steak per month.
No chicken since I read about its link to prostate cancer
Now, two eggs per week since I heard about eggs link to prostate cancer.
I ate several tablespoons of raw pumpkin seed each day, two tablespoons of sunflower seeds, one tablespoon hemp seeds, one tablespoon chia seeds, one tablespoon sesame seeds, 1/2 cup of oatmeal.
My selenium number in December was 220 (high because of so much salmon--daily???
My calcium was 8.5
lymphs (absolute) 5.3 (high)
Eos (absolute) was .6 (high)
Total cholestral 179 (one egg per day during previous 6 months)
HDL 37 (low)
triglycerides 101,
LDL 122 (high)
WBC: 11.4 high
Alc: 5.7 (high): I eat one half of a dark chocolate bar each day (300 calories, 72 % cocoa). I'm addicted. I'm spending $60 a month on it.
NOTE: I take my fasting blood once a week, and it is always in the 70s (never below 73, seldom above 80. So why isn't my Alc lower.
I just learned from my dermatologist that I have propicia (male hair loss). I thought it was from too high testosterone or selenium, but he said no.(he injected the bald spots with tiny shots of cortisone). My hair has really thinned, and I have an appointment in a month. Maybe my mercury is high from eating so much canned salmon.
So now I've given up dairy.
Yes canned salmon can cause increased levels of selenium
Detailed Answer:
Hey thanks for your faith in the health care Magic
I have gone through your question and I understood your problem.
Canned salmon is high in many important vitamins and nutrients. A list of important nutrients found in Salmon includes Vitamin D, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, niacin, selenium and magnesium. Since canned salmon usually includes bones it is also typically a good source of calcium as well.
So its good that you have stopped eating it.It can certainly cause increased selenium concentration.
You said you have hairloss pattern aswell and your doctor gave you steroid therapy which will surely help you.i would also like to add few more ways of improving hair.
In the past few years, medicine has made tremendous strides in the treatment of men's hair loss. With the advent of 5-alpha-reductace inhibitors such as Propecia and the evolution of surgical hair restoration, living with noticeable hair loss is no longer inevitable.
Finasteride-
Propecia's 1 mg dose of finasteride can effectively lower DHT levels in the scalp by as much as 60% when taken daily. It is DHT that shrinks or miniaturizes the hair follicle, which eventually leads to baldness. This 60% reduction in DHT has proven to stop the progression of hair loss in 86% of men taking the drug during clinical trials.
Minoxidil (Rogaine)
Minoxidil was the first drug approved by the FDA for the treatment of male pattern baldness. The XXXXXXX Hair Loss Association still recommends the drug for those who have not responded favorably to finasteride treatment or for those who would like to add another product to their regimen. The AHLA does not recommend minoxidil as the first line of attack for men suffering with male pattern baldness
So I will advice you to have a healthy diet and modify your lifestyle.Dont giveup
