Can Carpal Tunnel Syndrome And Tennis Elbow Coexist In Body Builders?
Question: hi, after a session of bicep curls I was awoken in the middle of the night with pain in elbow forearm and wrist. I went to the dr 2 weeks later and was diagnosed with tennis elbow. I rested completely for 4 months no improvement I went for 3 different mri's (shoulder, elbow and neck) along with a emg and ncs they all came back negative. The only thing that appeared was a slight tear of my anconeous muscle. Anytime I stretch or do rehab work all my injuries flare up. I have also received 2 prp shots in elbow no relief. Today I saw another dr and he gave me a cortisone shot in my wrist. It seems to be working. Prior to the injection I was not able to bend my wrist back with a feeling a sharp pain. Is it common to have both tennis elbow and carpal tunnel? I know the emg and ncs came back negative for entrapment but I test positive via the physical exams associated with carpal tunnel. Also would a wrist mri be helpful identifying a possible nerve entrapment? Thank you in advance for your time.
Brief Answer:
Both conditions can coexist in weight training. Do an MRI
Detailed Answer:
Hi there
Thanks for the query
Yes, Carpal tunnel syndrome and Tennis elbow can coexist especially in body builders due to repetitive weight training using the wrists.
Early carnal tunnel can be diagnosed with an MRI asks may not be positive for NCV or EMG.
You can do an MRI of the wrist. If there is mild oedema or fluid collection around the Median mene, it can indicate early compression.
I hope I have answered your query.
