Can Change In Altitude Cause Delay In Menstruation?
Question: I'm on the pill and am almost a week late now. I flew in to arizona last week before I was due to begin my period and spent several days at the Grand Canyon (alt. 7,000 ft) on what are normally the first three days of my period. I am now at an altitude of 10,000 ft in XXXXXXX Could altitude be the cause of the missing period? Also if I'm not pregnant but still don't get my period during the week I'm taking the placebo pills, should I begin the next pack of pills?
Brief Answer:
yes, change in climate can affect mensus
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Thanks for writing..
I understand your concern..
Yes, change in climate and altitude can affect menstrual cycle.. But for confirmation get a pregnancy test.. If negative you can wait for spontaneous onset of periods for a week.. if still no periods , you can take progesterone tablet to get withdrawal bleeding..
It would be better to start the next packet of pills from the day 1 of the next cycle.. There is no added advantage on taking it right now..
Hope I have answered your query.. Feel free to ask any doubts.. good day..
