Question: My mother fell down four steps . Nothing seems broken as she can walk but today developed chills and fever. Can this be related to the fall?

I appreciate your concern

Fever can occur after a fall but its its unlikely that one would develop high grade fever with rigors or chills after a fall. She needs to be examined. If there was any head injury or altered mental state even transiently then a neurological assessment is required. The limbs especially both hips and lower limbs should be examined properly and if indicated then x ray imaging should be advised to rule out the possibility of fracture.

An infectious cause needs to be looked for. It may have preceded the fall e.g a urinary tract infection. Septic screen including chest x ray, urinalysis and a complete blood count should be advised in this case, in consultation with your doctor.
