Can Chlorinated Water Cause Vaginal Irritation In A Six Year Old?
thank you
It can cause irritation- Could be vulvitis
Detailed Answer:
Hi...chlorinated water can cause irritation. It is not a disease, but refers to the inflammation of the soft folds of skin on the outside of the female genitalia, the vulva. The irritation can be caused by infection, allergic reaction, or injury. The skin of the vulva is especially susceptible to irritation due to its moistness and warmth.
Not only by chlorinated water, it cab caused by many other factors like....use of colored or perfumed toilet paper, allergic reaction to bubble bath or soap used to clean the genital area / Irritation by chlorinated swimming pool or hot tub water/ Wearing synthetic underwear or nylon pantyhose without a breathable cotton/ Wearing a wet bathing suit for extended periods of time/ eczema or dermatitis.
Immediately stop using of any of the above mentioned ones...which may be causing the irritation and to wear loose-fitting, breathable white cotton undergarments. Sometimes use of an over-the-counter cortisone ointment can help.
Sitz baths and the use of a topical estrogen cream prescribed by your doctor can help a lot.
Will be glad to help with any other queries.
