Brief Answer:
Carbon monoxide exposure does not cause hair loss.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thank you for using Healthcaremagic to post your health query.
I read carefully your question and I understand your concern.

Hair loss is not one of the symptoms of the intoxication or chronic exposure of carbon monoxide. It has many other symptoms which are almost the same in acute of chronic exposure.

Once we have found a reason for your hair loss, I will be happy to help with advises of how can the hair grow back, by treating the problem which is causing it.

Please let me know some information about your hair loss:
- Upload a photo so I can have a look.
- Since when have you had these hair loss? Is it with patches, of you just notice it falling a lot?

The more information you give me about your health of whatever you think can be relevant, the most accurate and helpful I may be in my advises.

Looking forward to your follow up question.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako

Please go to www.carbon-monoxide-survivor.com on left side of screen scroll down to short term effects then scroll down and click on physical symptoms and after effects. there is a long list and at the very bottom it state hair loss/thinning hair. one survivor discussed losing hair but did not say if it will grow back. please review this with a dermatologist that is familiar with carbon monoxide. thanks, XXXXXXX

Brief Answer:
The hair will start growing back within 2 weeks

Detailed Answer:
Dear XXXXXXX

Thank you for the follow up question.

I am sorry I misunderstood your question the first time. I understand now that you know for a fact that the hair loss that you have is from CO exposure. It is such a rare symptom, that is why it is in the last place of the line of possible symptoms. CO exposure is very acute in general and there is no time to develop hair thinning or hair loss. So it can happen only in chronic exposures.

I researched long about that side effect and from what they have seen is that, after the exposure is stopped, the hair will start to grow back within 2 weeks.

Here is a reference that you can read by yourself: http://www.hairlossexpert.co.uk/poisoning-hair-loss.html

Hope this clarifies your question.
Let me know if you have other questions or concerns.

Regards,
Dr. Papaqako
