Can Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Be Related To Fatty Liver Or Is It Due To Stress?
Question: Hi I'm a 42 year old female and am chronically exhausted. I have been diagnosed at the age of 20 with chronic fatigue syndrome after a bout of mono. The episodes of intense exhaustion usually last for approximately 3 to 4 weeks then lessen. I have just had a complete physical with blood work and a full cardiac assessment including echo and everything checked out ok. I have been to a gastro and was diagnosed with GERD and a fatty liver. My question is can this intense fatigue be related to my fatty liver or is it stress related and connected to the chronic fatigue diagnose from years ago. What can I do to lessen the feeling of fatigue.

Fatty liver does not typically cause symptoms at all. Sometimes, if severe, it can interfere with the rate of breakdown of some medications causing those to be higher than normal in the blood stream. But fatty liver will not cause chronic fatigue symptoms.
If you have had CFS for 22 years, have you seen any CFS specialists or university infectious disease specialists? CFS is a diagnosis of exclusion, meaning ever other possible cause has been ruled out. CFS may have many different causes which express with common symptoms, so whenever possible, it's important to find any underlying cause and specific lab/test abnormalities which can point us in the direction of what to do about it.
