Can Consuming A Really Hot Meal Cause A Sore Throat And Cough?

default
Posted on Mon, 18 Dec 2023
Question: This will sound ridiculous, but if someone ate a piece of really hot meat and swallowed it would sore throat and coughing be symptoms. I’ve been to an urgent care center and they ruled out strep throat, none of the prescriptions for pain are working and the area in my mouth started first in my throat and is spreading to the roof of my mouth. I’m not running a temperature.

Brief Answer:

Oral Burns

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

You have probably acquired oral mucosal burns. Please send me the picture of your mouth so that I can suggest you better.

I would suggest Aceclofenac or Ibuprofen for pain relief as and when required.

Follow up with the required information so that I can suggest you better and prescribe you accordingly. Avoid any hot meals. Avoid spicy food and aerated drinks. Avoid smoking and alcohol.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
