Brief Answer:
Could be infection of throat leading to node enlargement

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Usually cold cough and fever followed by swelling near the ear could indicate infection , leading on to lymph node enlargement. It could also be mumps which is again commonly causes swelling just below the ear . It is difficult to tell without proper examination of the child . His throat , ears have to checked for infection.
I usually prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin for a week for such infections if confirmed by physical examination.
I would advise you to consult with your nearby Pediatrician and get him examined and start him on medications as per the instructions.
Wishing speedy recovery
