Can Diverticulitis Be Diagnosed By A Simple Examination Of The Stomach While Having Pain In The Lower Left Quadrant Of My Stomach?
Nevertheless he put me on the usual treatment of Cipro and Flagil which it is making me terribly ill.
Questions:
can diverticulatis be diagnosed by symptoms and a simple touch in the stomac? Or should I have a cat scan? I have excellent insurance.
Could this be a stomac muscle issue?
diverticulitis less likely.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have read your query thoroughly.
* Diverticulitis is a possible clinical diagnosis based upon certain symptoms and
clinical findings.
Usually there are associated symptoms in terms of nausea, vomiting, fever,
alteration in appetite, bowel habits to various degree in different individuals.
* In your case, pain since week with poking at stomach is not confirmatory of the
diverticulitis ; it may be abdomen muscle cramp, intestine infection or others.
* My recommendations at present
- Consume more liquids.
- Prefer low fiber diet.
- Avoid spices, oily, dairy fat, non veg stuffs.
- Deep breathing exercises.
- Get prescription of proton pump inhibitor, pro biotic and anti spasmodic
medication from your doctor.
- Avoid smoking or alcohol if consuming.
- Manage to have sound sleep of 6-7 hours.
* Follow up after 24 hours about the progress or early as per the requirement.
I do not suggest CT scan as an emergency at this point.
Wish you fine recovery.
Regards.
Or should I just call the GP tomorrow and ask him?
MY instinct tells me that I don’t have this ailment, but I don’t feel like questioning the Dr. tomorrow when I could have done it at his office 3 days ago.
I’m very concerned about consuming antibiotics that not only are making me miserable, but that perhaps could do more harmful than good.
Thank you very much!
Your first answer really helped!
follow up .
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome for follow up.
* As the antibiotic is started, I would favor to complete the course, if there is
gastric upset or other problems, you should consume half of previous dose.
There is no need to call GP for this.
* Addition of proton pump inhibitor with anti spasmodic medicines will give better
results.
* Along with this, dietary measures are main course of component for best
outcome.
Feel free to post further doubts if any.
Regards take care.
