Question : Can drinking beet juice cause your ejaculation/semen to become red in color? I drank a large cup of fresh squeezed beet yesterday at 6:30pm. I notice it before I went to bed last night and again today.

Drinking Beetroot juice will not cause Hematospermia (blood in semen)

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Based on the facts that you have posted red colored semen that you have ejaculated cannot be due to drinking beetroot juice.

Beetroot juice is completely absorbed from GI tract and excreted through feces It does not enter into general circulation.

The Hematospermia that you have noticed could be either from blood in Seminal Vesicle or Prostate and needs to be investigated.

Please consult a urologist for clinical and digital rectal examination and get the following basic investigations done to confirm the diagnosis:
1) Urine routine and culture.
2) Ultrasound scanning of abdomen and pelvis
3) Serum PSA.
4) Trans Rectal Ultrasound Scanning( TRUS)
5) Semen Examination and Semen culture
