Can Episiotomy Cause Abdominal Pain?
Question: Hello Doctor,
My wife was pregnant and delivered the baby on Sept 11. As she was unable to push enough and baby's heartbeat started slowing down, Doctor decided to go for episiotomy. As its now 5 days since episiotomy was performed, she still has very bad pain in the area. Now she is even unable to sit easily on the chair/bed. On Sept 11th, Doctor mentioned that she also has hemorrhoids.
Please let me know if it is common to have such bad pain after 5-6 days in case of episiotomy. Also, it will be helpful if I can know how much time it generally takes to get healed.
Thanks & Regards,
Ashish

Brief Answer:
Explained below.
Detailed Answer:
Hello dear,
Thanks for trusting hcm about your health care.
I have gone through your history and understand your concerns.
Mild pain in episiotomy is possible and considered normal but if she had severe pain and she can't sit due to that ,she should get examined by her doctor for local swelling and discharge.
It could be associated with haemorrhoids also.
She can do hot fomentation on local site and avoid constipation (if there).
She can take pain killer also.
Hope found useful, feel free to ask more information.
Good luck.
Regards
