Can Fungus In And Around The Toes Be Treated And Cured?

Question: My 97-yo mother had her toenails cut by a podiatrist today. I noticed a blue streak on one toenail and thick white covering on her big toe. The podiatrist said they were both fungus and there was nothing that would help it. Do you know of anything to get rid of it? Or should we ignore it? Or perhaps ask an opinion of another podiatrist?
Brief Answer:
laser treatment
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It is true that at 97 years of age it would not be safe to put her on the anti-fungal medications since they have many side effects. However, many podiatrists are able to do laser treatments to cure fungal toenails. That is what I would recommend.
There are some topical treatments but they do not work very well. Try to find a podiatrist that does laser treatments for fungal nails.
The other options is that if they are not causing her pain then you could also just ignore it and keep her nails trimmed.
