Posted on Mon, 25 Jan 2016
Question: Hi I received unprotected oral sex from a woman I do not know (I am male) two days ago, she had no visable signs of herpes or sores on her mouth but I am also worried about gonerhera and chylmdia and am thinking of just going and getting treated for both just in case - do you advise this is a good idea? Thank you

Brief Answer:
Tests advised.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for your query at HCM.
I understand your concern and situation.

Just after 2 days I would not suggest you any tests. I would rather ask you to observe yourself for another 2 weeks. After that you can get PCR test done for gonorrhea and chlamydia. As far as HIV is concerned it does not spreads by kissing. In case of oral sex also chances are extremely rare. You can get HIV PCR test after 5-6 weeks and 4 th generation ELISA test after 12 weeks. Yes you can get treatment done under physician guidance after prescription.

Take care

Thank you Dr XXXXXXX ..I would rather just treat myself now for gonnrrhea and chlamydia to put my mind at ease and not have to go thru the anxiety is waiting for symptoms for two weeks...this way I would know that in 7 days after treatment if I had either STI they would be cleared...do you see any harm in this?

I have one more question...non STI related,

My liver functions were elevated in my recent bloodwork (the blood was taken after a vacation week with over alcohol comsumption and I was also taking advil and cipro for Prostatis)..

ALP - 75
ALT - 229
AST - 173
GGT - 198

Do you think this is a sign of acute liver damage from alcohol (I have had a fatty liver in the past) - I am a 38 yr old man 170 lbs

I resume consuming alcohol on a moderate basis per government guidelines..no more than 2 units per day will the damage be repaired?

Thank you

Brief Answer:
Stop alcohol to avoid further damage.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Yes your liver enzymes are deranged and suggesting liver problems. You must completely stop taking alcohol to prevent further damage. You need to control your weight. Do exercise daily. Eat healthy and balanced diet with multivitamins and calcium supplement regularly. Avoid beef, oily, spicy, processed and junk food. Liver tonics will be beneficial. Do not take unnecessary medicines. Add more fruits, garlic, leafy greens, apples, carrots, and grapefruit to your diet. Take diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids like salmon, tuna, and sardines or flax seed oil. Consult a dietitian.
