Can Height Be Increased After The Age Of 38?
Surgical technique called Ilizarov is there but its not for everyone
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in details.
Bones stop growing after 21 years of age and therefore this limits any increase in your height since you have reached 38 years of age. However, there is a surgical technique called Ilizarov technique by which the bones of the legs are surgically cut and lengthened by a slow process called controlled distraction osteogenesis.
This is a procedure which can take 6 months to a year and you will have rings and wires on your legs throughout. This requires the patient to be immobile for a long time and you need to be psychologically prepared to undergo the procedure. Surgeon has to examine you in detail and then decide if you can take the treatment. The results can vary from 2 inches to 6 inches increase in height on an average.
Hope this answers your question. Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.
Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
