Can Hiatal Hernia Cause Breathing Problems?
Question: Can a hiatal hernia press on the trachea and cause breathing problems?
My breathing has gotten more difficult over a 3 month period, I do some times have a slight pain in that upper area when I have been eating on some occasions, throw up pain stops and I'm ok. The breathing is the big concern now. I have COPD and take all of the Meds for that, I have had Stress test, EKGs, CT scans You name it all ok. still searching for shortness all of a sudden!

Brief Answer:
Lungs issues to rule out
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Hiatal hernia can cause problems with breathing. However, taking into account your COPD history, pulmonary function test is advised to evaluate lungs function and exclude pulmonary issues.
With regards to hernia, I advise to run upper endoscopy /scopy with barium to evaluate its size and correlation with trachea.
Hope it was of help!
