Can Homeopathic Medication Be Taken For CKD?

Question: Hello
This is XXXX from XXXXXXX . My MUM (aged 68)recently had a viral fever & her renal functions are affected now.(could be due drug induced initially by the medicos-) ..She was in ICu for a month & now she is undergoing DIalysis every alternate day- her creatine level is around 2.4, BUN is 31. She is very weak now & cant walk, limbs swollen. She is non diabetic. Very pathetic as she had just the viral fever & landed as a CKD patient. We wanted to try Homeopathy now ...Now the treating Doctors say Homeopathy is not proven is not proven & when combined with dialysis can severely further injure the Kidneys.. The urine output is there (last 3 days)- as 100 ml to 250ml...
Can you help suggest whetehr Homeopathy really cures CKD?

Brief Answer:
My experience with homeopathy
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the query
It is difficult to tell if your mother actually has ckd requiring dialysis because as per definition one has to wait for 3 months before labeling someone as ckd.
If I were to be your doctor I would have taken her up for biopsy to see the status and recovering capacity of the kidney.
In my experience as a nephrologist my patients who have tried homeopathy have failed to get any good results. Some of them landed up with severe complications of ckd. So my experience with homeopathy is not very good
I hope I was of help, if you have any further queries please get back to me
regards

Thanks Dr XXXXXXX
1) just 1 month in ICU, the critical care team (icu) say that she has moved into CKD. Not sure how they said perhaps based on the current frequent dialysis & swelling in the legs. Earlier the swelling was in both hands & legs but now only persisitent in legs.Mom cant move the back as well as the legs now.
2) Yes Our Nephrologist says we need to do the Biopsy but she cant tolerate the test now.Hence to wait. But we are worried that she may end up in longterm dialysis
3) Our Doctor says we can treat with Steroids.IF so will there be any side effects? How can the steroidal side effects could be avoided?

Detailed Answer:
Hello, Welcome back to HCM.
Thanks for the follow-up
1. If the patient is not stable then a safer method to get the biopsy done is through trans jugular route, find out if that is possible.
2. 1 month history is too early to label someone as CKD in a patient with a normal sized kidneys
3. Steroids is a good idea, however one has to be very sure that the patient does not have an active ongoing infection
Regards
