Thank you very much for the response. I have another two questions regarding hydroxyzine if you are willing and/or able to answer them. Firstly, low sex drive and anxiety/irritability are things I have experienced with other antihistamines before. I haven't experienced it with hydroxyzine but I think that may be because I've only taken it sporadically and usually right before bed. So I'm wondering if it's possible to inquire if those effects would logically take place. I'm also wondering how long it generally takes to work in clearing up the eustachian tubes. Thanks again.

Hi,
Thank you for joining again. Hydroxyzine is used not only for allergic symptoms but also for anxiety and insomnia. Hydroxyzine is also prescribed for controlling of anxiety and tension and producing sound sleep.
As Hydroxyzine is a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, so it can relief from insomnia and anxiety through a reduction in serotonin and increase the levels of GABA.
Anxiety, tension, lack of proper sleep etc can reduce your sex drive. Your reduced sex drive may result from those antihistamines's side effects that you have taken earlier.
On the other hand, Hydroxyzine can help to relieve your anxiety or tension and ensure proper sleep daily. For that reason, your sexual drive remain intact. But, taking this medication at day time may make you drowsy or sleepy. So, this medication should be taken at bed time.
Hydroxyzine usually starts to work within 30-60 minutes and lasts for 4-6 hours. So, by using this medication, you will get rapid relief from ear blockage. Your ear blockage will usually be subsided within few days such as 3-5 days.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
