Can I Continue Thyroid Medications And Beta Blockers Post Radioactive Iodine Therapy?

Thyroid
Detailed Answer:
When I treat a patient in my practice with XXXXXXX I typically stop the anti thyroid medication. However, I only gradually withdraw the beta blocker.
Sometimes at around 1 week after XXXXXXX treatment there is a potential spike in thyroid hormone levels as the radiation destroys thyroid cells. At this time it is possible that the 'hyperadrenergic symptoms' such as increased pulse rate for example may become more evident. Beta blockers help in keeping this in check and control these manifestations.
So essentially, it is important to monitor pulse and blood pressure and other symptoms in the ensuing days after XXXXXXX therapy, to see what dose of beta blocker is appropriate, and then further begin gradual withdrawal of beta blockers with the intent to completely stop them over the course of a couple weeks.

Detailed Answer:
If you stopped your beta blocker all of a sudden, then it can result in 'rebound' symptoms.
The beta blocker must be gradually withdrawn regardless.
Radiation should not cause the headaches nor stuffiness in your ears. You may wish to get these symptoms looked at by your family doctor to consider other potential causes.
