Posted on Wed, 2 Jul 2014
Question: I have just been diagnosed with a leaking tricuspid valve. I have some heart fluttering and occasional mild chest pain and fatigue. Is it safe for me to exercise to the maximum heart rate for my age? I use the treadmill, elliptical machine and lift weights up to twelve pounds.

Brief Answer:
Not recommended...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I am happy to know that you have a normal weight, a well controlled blood pressure and are keeping exercised.

From what you are describing, I do not recommend to exercise to the maximum heart rate for your age until you get the results of echocardiogram and stress test.

As you are having leaking tricuspid valve and occasional heart fluttering and mild chest pain and fatigue, it is not safe to exercise to the maximum heart rate for your age.

All the best!
