default
Posted on Mon, 30 Jun 2014
Question: Hi,

My daughter is 5 month 10 days old, she weighs 6Kg now and at birth she was 3.08 Kg. She gained only 400 gms/month(i.e. for last 2 month she gained 800 gm) Is this the right time to introduce her to solid foods... Till now I am breast feeding and giving her the expressed milk... no formulas or no other state of food.. So if I need to start with her solid food what should I start with? Please guide me...

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,

Your baby is slightly less in weight for her age.

She should AV been around 6 kgs whern 4 months old and now newly 7 kgs,.

May be your breast milk is not adequate now as she is growing.

The usual weaning time for breast fed infants is 6 months.

You can start now with cerelac rice or nest um rice once a day ,and then gradually increase to twice a day.

You can also give mashed potatoes, little bit of idly, booked and pureed apple, orange juice once a day diluted ,etc to start with.

Always introduce any new food one by one at intervals of at least one week.

By 8-9 months, you can start rice and dhal ,khichadi, pongal, vegetables boiled and masdhedd, egg yolk ,etc.

Good luck

God bless

Dr Uma
