Can I Increase Levoxyl Dosage For Hypothyroidism Inspite Of Having Tiredness All Day?
Question: I am a 72 year old woman. I'm concerned about the increase of the dosage of my Levoxyl?
Before you answer my question, please tell me what the cost will be.
I am a 72 year old woman. I have 40% blockage of my caratid artery on each side of my chest. I take 40 mg of Crestor every day. I also suffer from high blood pressure for which I take 50 mg of Lisinoprol. What I'm writing about is that I suffer from hypothroidism as well. For this I take .05 mg of Levoxyl for about 10 years. For the past year or so I have become exhausted particularly the past few months. I'm exhausted most of the time. I can only go out during the day due to said exhaustion. I work out in the morning 5 days a week which I've done most of my life. I pressured my PCP to increase my dosage of Levoxyl another 2.5 mg which would be 1 1/2 pills - He was a bit hesitant because of all of my ailments. Since the increase I've felt more awake, but when I work out my back hurts as well as the back of my legs. Will this subside in time. FYI - I am 5'0 inches tall and weigh about 120 lbs. Also, from your educated thought process does this make sense - the increase I mean. Will I eventually have more energy?
Thanks for your help with this.

Brief Answer:
What is your TSH
Detailed Answer:
Dear Madam
Good day.
Noted your history and happy that your symptoms have improved ever since the dose of levoxyl was increased. However , like your GP, I too have concerns in increasing the dose of levoxyl at your age just based on symptoms alone.
Have you had a recent thyroid blood test done? If so would do be kind enough to share it ?
It is extremely important to know that before a dose change can be suggested.

I know that my physician keeps a close eye on blood tests, etc, and they are part of the exams. However, I don't know the test results. I do know that when I stated that I was so very tired all of the time, he sort of mumbled that maybe an increase would help. May I ask what the real concerns are, and could the increase give me more energy going forward. It has only been a few days since the med adjustment took place.
Thank you,
Thank you,
Brief Answer:
No need to worry
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Overdosing can cause palpitations and osteoporosis etc. However if the TSH stays normal, no need to worry. 75 mcg is not really a huge dose. If you feel good then please continue the same. But as the dose was increased you need to do another thyroid function testing after six weeks. The aim is to keep your FT4 (free T4) in upper half of normal and TSH in mid normal range.
