Can Implantation Bleeding Be A Sign Of Pregnancy?
Question: Hi Doctor. I am 23 years old. I got my periods on the 6th of Dec 2015, my previous date was 11th. Except for the 1st drop of blood, the remaining blood is black in colour. I had sex for the 1st time a week before my periods started, though I have had oral sex before and have used my finger. What could be the reason for this? Is it related to the intercourse?
Brief Answer:
Can be implantation bleeding
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Unprotected intercourse can lead to pregnancy. Since you had spotting 1 week after the intercourse, it can be due to implantation bleeding after conception.
However, pregnancy can be detected only after14 days of intercourse.
I suggest you to wait for the periods, if delayed, then do get a urine pregnancy test done and get appropriate treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Please do get back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.

Hi Doctor. I had protected sex, we used a condom. And I already got my periods on the 6th of Dec. the black blood was coming during my periods. I got my periods 4days early .
Brief Answer:
Diagnosis depends on blood flow
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear,
If you are getting normal flow of the periods, then the colour of the blood is not of much concern.
However, if the flow is scanty or less than the normal, then I will suggest you again to get a pregnancy test.
Condom usage also has a failure rate of 3-14%, so chances of failure of contraception are there.

Doctor, incase Its not pregnancy, what could be the other reason for the blood to be black in colour. Could it be anythint serious?
Brief Answer:
Hormonal disturbances, infection
Detailed Answer:
Hi dear, other causes of altered coloured blood in periods can be hormonal disturbances like hypothyroidism, or endometrial pathologies like tuberculosis or infection.
However, there are other associated symptoms of these diseases which are not present in you.
I suggest you to not to worry and observe the flow in further menstrual cycles. If the problem persists, then you should get yourself investigated for these conditions.
