Can Increasing The Dose Of Progesterone Helpful In Getting Menses In A PCOS Patient?
Question: I have PCOS it doesn't bother me besides no period. I've been told I NEED to have a period because it helps clear out the lining and it just is important for women with PCOS to menstrate. I have only had one period since may 2016. 9 months of that I was pregnant. Baby girl born February 2017 and the period I had was Sept 2017 due to having taken progesterone. They prescribed me two kinds of birth control pills to help regulate my cycle. Lo loestrin and jolivette. I have not had a period between packs on Either of those pills. That's just so strange to me. Do I need a pill with more hormones to get that bleed between packs? I can't seem to get a good answer from the two obgyns I've seen. I see another one in april, but they don't seem to understand that I WANT a period. I feel lik my body needs to have one...I do have cramping sometimes, but nothing too painful just a reminder that I'm not functioning properly. Would doubling up on the pill daily give me more hormones to have a period between packs? Thank you. 30 yr old female. 1 child.
Brief Answer:
Needs to be evaluated.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I have gone through your history thoroughly and try to understand your concerns.
As PCOS is an endocrinal disorder, lifestyle changes and diet control is helpful in your case to regulate menstrual cycle.
As in your case you are not having your menses that means you are not ovulating properly.
So I think before increasing the dose of hormone, first you should get your thyroid profile, hormonal profile, hb and pelvic ultrasound to rule out the cause of your absent menses.
Hope you find the answer useful.
Good luck.
