Can Influenza A Cause Delirium?

Question: I just recovered from the flu so my question is out of curiosity. When I first became ill with flu, I had episodes of not knowing whether something really happened or if I had imagined it. I felt disassociated wth reality. I would just be thinking about something and nonsense thoughts would come to not my mind. I wondered if this feeling of unreality, not knowing what was real from my thoughts, was a typical symptom of the flu. I was diagnosed with influenza A. I'm completely recovered now but I still feel concerned that I experienced this mental confusion. I'm hoping it was just part of the flu.
Brief Answer:
This mental confusion could be related to flu.
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Based on your history, and your health situation (diabetes, HTN, and bipolar disorder) I think that your mental confusion could be related to the flu as a complication.
You should know that although flu (influenza A) is an infectious disease with predominant respiratory manifestation, the psychological problem can be seen.
The relationship between psychosis and influenza has been well documented in medical literature for a long time.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
