Can Iron Be Stored In The Liver Without Being Detected In Blood Tests?
Question: I got a metal on metal hip replacement which had to be replaced because it was faulty. Iron from hip got into my blood which my consultant said was 8 .I felt very tired and went to my G P who took blood samples and I was told I had type 2 diabetes My hip consultant tells me my blood count is back to normal however I have the symptoms of Haemochromatosis . My question is could iron be stored in body liver e.g. without being detected by blood test that was used to check how much iron was in my blood
Brief Answer:
It's impossible for iron not to be detected in blood in your case
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
I can certainly understand your concern
I have worked through your attached query in detail
Coming straight to your question, it's impossible for iron to be detected in the liver without its detection in the blood, although elevated iron deposits may be found in liver in hemochromatosis.
The chief course of body iron is the red blood cells.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
