Can Keflex For The Infection?

Question: My wife has pain in her left knee as a result of a failed third TKR, and has for years. Nothing helps much. including oxycodone. Presently she is trying acupuncture. She has had strep equine infection in that knee, also, for years. Will acupuncture likely help? Could it make the infection worse? She has had 10 treatments and so far no good results. Should it help with the pain? She was advised that she can't have pain injections directly into her knee because of the infection. She is taking Keflex for the infection. XXXXXXX Demint
Brief Answer:
Acupuncture is less likely to help.
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain in her knee is chronic and severe that is not even helped by oxycodone. The ongoing infection further adds to the pain. Acupuncture is a technique to control chronic mild to moderate pain. In her case, it is less likely to help.
It is not likely to affect the infection. Keflex will help in controlling the infection. Oral Tramadol tablets may help but she needs to get them prescribed by her doctor.
Hope this answer is helpful.
Any further questions are welcome.
