Can Long Term Use Of Lipitor Cause Damage To The Ulnar Nerve?
Brief Answer:
Not ulnar nerve neuropathy.
Detailed Answer:
Welcome To HCM. I am Dr Anshul Varshney. I understand your concern.
Lipitor contains Statins and Statins are known to cause myopathy in high doses that too on long term use.
Now as far as neuropathy is concerned, a single nerve neuropathy that is mononeuropathy is not a known side effect caused by Statins.
However Statins are known to cause Peripheral Neuropathy that too commonly in diabetic population.
Peripheral Neuropathy means that the person would get neuropathy on both hand and legs and not in a division of a single nerve.
I hope it helps you.
If you have any further query, please ask me.

I have a situation where my left little finger and ring finger are numb. The first doctorI went to had me scheduled to have cubital tunnel. Two days prior to the surgery, I was sent to a neurologist. She said he was misdiagnosing the problem. She said the problem was a blockage between the left wrist and elbow where I broke my arm when I was 16.The MRI confirmed this. I went to another hand surgeon who said he did not need to see the records He knew what the problem was because he was the "Best Hand Surgeon" in Florida. He made a slight incision above the elbow and this failed. I went to anther orthopedic surgeon who operated on just below the left elbow. I do not know exactly what he did. Both totally ignored the neurologist and MRI report. I am thinking of going to the XXXXXXX Clinic in Fl which is known woridwide for its expertise. You really did not answer my question the first time
I wrote the above several hours ago. When can I expect a response?

Brief Answer:
Get NCV done
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
It doesn't seem to be be cubital tunnel or carpel tunnel syndrome.
This can be due to Tennis elbow or Ulnar nerve epicondylitis which is an acute or chronic inflammation of the tendons that join the forearm muscles on the outside of the elbow.
Now, the best way out is to get a Nerve Conduction velocity (NCV) testing done to be sure for the etiology.
NCV almost always shows that which nerve is involved and also describes the pattern of involvement.
Be sure before you go ahead with any treatment. NCV if done properly, would help you surely.
I hope it helps.
