Can Loud Noises Affect The Development For Newborn?
My baby is newborn and I'm worried if unexpected noises will disturb him. Recently the unit on top of my house is doing some renovation. The chiseling and hammering noises is unexpected and loud. My baby did not cry when the noises came .. But he did cry after the work stopped.
May I know how these noises can affect newborn? Wat can I do when these noises appear? R there any tell tale sign if he is startle or scared?
I know that new born can see things too far away. When will visibility improve ?
Thank u
You need not worry
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on healthcaremagic. Congratulations on having a baby. Any sense has two components - perception and interpretation. While the former is the function that the sense organ performs, the latter is a function of the brain and these two are interconnected. Incidentally neither the sense organs like eye and ear, nor the brain itself are fully developed at birth. As time progresses and with increased inputs, the development proceeds steadily. There is a process called myelination going on till at least the first year of life by virtue of which the nerve cells of the brain start functioning. Subsequently into childhood, a process called synapse formation or interconnections between neurons continues and this attributes higher functions like interpretation of intensions of the person by viewing the facial expression. So I hope that I have been able to explain that there are different components of senses like vision and hearing that would be developing into late childhood.
We often discount noises that are not relevant, for example we soon tend not to hear the sound of fan while we do something else, but we might get conscious as soon as it stops suddenly. In case if your child, the same thing has happened and it is absolutely normal. Insignificant sounds or noise can create irritation which the child expresses with cranky nature and crying. So unless that is the case, you need not worry. Getting startled is normal for babies and would not be otherwise concerning.
