Can Masturbation Too Early After TURP Lead To Severe Urinary Retention?
Question: Can masturbation too early after TURP lead to severe urinary retention and prolong time on Foley catheter
Brief Answer:
Yes, Masturbation too early after TURP can cause urinary retention .
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for query .
Masturbation done too early in recovery period of within three weeks causes congestion of prostatic fossa and leads to spasm of sphincter urethra leading to urinary retention .
It will naturally take long time for fossa too heal requiring Foley Cather to be kept for 10 days to two weeks .
Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions, I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

I have had Foley for 4 weeks post-TURP after 2 unsuccessful attempts to void. Bladder muscle test before TURP indicated no neurologic issues with bladder function. I did masturbate about 12 and 20 days after surgery but not for about 10 days. No significant amount of blood has been in the leg bag until today. I am scheduled for another void test in about 3 weeks. Will I have a high probability of failing the next void test because of prostatic fossa congestion? I will not masturbate between now and the void test in 3 weeks.
Brief Answer:
Could be due to residual prostate at apex of Prostate
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up
Retention of urine or inability to void could be due to residual prostatic tissue at the apex of Prostate.
Since you are scheduled for voiding trial after 3 weeks let us wait for outcome . If you fail to void you may need to undergo Endoscopic evaluation and resection of residual prostate ( If Required)

Thank you for your reply. There is no blood this morning in my catheter bag. Urine is normal in color. I have discussed options with my urologist should next void test fail. I believe, as you indicate, there is residual prostate tissue causing retention. I have noticed what I consider tissue in my urine intermittently these past 2 weeks. This further suggests you are correct and another endoscopic evaluation will be necessary. I am not convinced masturbating is the cause of this retention issue.

Trying to void with just catheter and see some bypass of urine. Flow seems strong but short when directly through catheter. Is bypass when using catheter a result of strong urine flow over narrow tip of catheter? Do still see what looks like white milky urine at times. Assume this may be residual prostatic tissue from first TURP...do these seem reasonable interpretations?
Will F/U with surgeon and see if next void test does not result in retention

Brief Answer:
Whir material in urine is not prostate tissue .
Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up
The white material in urine is necrotic tissue from prostatic fossa
The strong flow of urine by the side of catheter is due to spasm of bladder .
Wait for voiding trial .
