Question: I had mirena inserted after an abortion in 2010 through Planned Parenthood. I have been having Sciatica-like symptoms including nerve-spasms on my left waist side that continues to my back and lower back on left side. Could this AT ALL be related to mirena iud?

Brief Answer: Highly unlikely to be due to mirena. Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXX, Thank you for your query. I can understand your concerns. It is highly unlikely to have sciatica like symptoms and nerve spasms due to mirena. However to confirm I will advise you to get a sonography of your uterus done to see that your mirena is in place as if it gets displaced outside your uterus then pain can occur. I will also advice you to get an MRI of your lower spine as that seems to be a more likely cause of your pain.
