Can Molluscum Contagiosum Be Transmitted Through Lip Waxing?
Question: Can you catch HSV or moluscum contagiosum from getting your lip waxed? I went to a well rated salon/spa, but my husband was concerned. This is my first time having anything waxed. The technician wore gloves, and seemed to use a lot of tongue depressors, but I didn't ask until after if she redipped it (she said that she didn't, but would they admit that?).
Brief Answer:
Molluscum can transmit indirectly through inanimate objects but not HSV

Hello. Thank you for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I have taken note of your query and I have understood it.
Herpes virus/ HSV does not transmit indirectly through fomites.
The virus dies quickly on exposure to air, outside body and does not survive for more than a few seconds.
The only mode of transmission of herpes is through direct skin-to-skin contact with an infected partner. This contact may be sexual Or non-sexual.
Molluscum on the other hand can transmit indirectly as well i.e through sharing towels, other inanimate objects.

Brief Answer:
HSV does not transmit through inanimate objects
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Yes, HSV only gets transmitted by direct skin-to-skin contact. It is fragile and does not survive outside body for more than a few seconds.
However, Molluscum virus can be acquired indirectly as well i.e through shared towels and other inanimate objects, if these inanimate objects were already contaminated with the virus.
Waxing, threading etc can lead to indirect transmission if the objects used were contaminated Or not disposable Or not sterilized after every use
