Can My PCOD Be Related To Insulin Resistance, And Can Regular Workouts Help Me Stop Taking Metformin?

default
Posted on Mon, 7 Oct 2024
Question: Nobody in my family has diabetes and my sugar levels have been elevated since 2014 , in 2019 i started taking metformin because the hb1ac was around 9-10.
i read somewhere that hormonal imbalance can cause insulin resistance and got myself examined and i was diagnosed with PCOD, haven't taken any medicine for it . is it possible that the two are interrelated? I take metformin SR twice a day and my hb1ac is around 6 now as I haven't been working out lately. if I work out it comes down to 5-5.5

Can regular workout help me get off the medicine and make pcod go away?

Brief Answer:
Yes, PCOD and diabetes are inter-related

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Yes, these come under metabolic disorders. Diabetes is seen commonly in PCOD. Regular exercise is the best way to maintain health for longer time in this case. Metformin also helps. However in these cases exercise is best. In PCOD medicine may be needed when trying to get pregnant and pregnancy not happening naturally.

As described by yourself that exercise (and dietary changes, naturopathy) is helping with HBA1C. It will also help with hormonal balance and also allow you to be off medicine.
