Can My Allergy Medicines Like Singulair, Zyrtec And Nasalcort Be Causing Coordination And Balance Situation Issues?

Posted on Wed, 20 Mar 2024
Question: I am on Singulair, Zyrtec, Nasalcort, for allergies, and Methimazole for thyroid. I have been on allergy meds for a very long time and I am having some coordination problems. This happened to me 20-30 years ago when I was on Xanax for several years. Once I went off Xanax the coordination/balance issues disappeared. Can my allergy meds be causing this same coordination/balance situation again?

Brief Answer:
Zyrtec most probable culprit

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I understand your concern. Out of all the three anti allergic drugs, which in my opinion are too many, Zyrtec is the most probable culprit. Anti-histaminics (such as Zyrtec) are known to cause problems with balance and possibly coordination. Antianxiety and antidepressant drugs (such as Xanax) have this same side effect. So I would advice you to stop using Zyrtec and see if there is any improvement in your balance.

If there is no improvement and you continue to experience such symptoms, I recommend you see your PCP for a physical examination and further testing.

I hope this answers your question. You are welcome to ask any further questions you might have.

Wishing you good thealth and all the best.
