Can Neurosis Lead To Psychosis?
If neurosis is not diagnosed and treated then it can turn to psychosis
Detailed Answer:
Hi xxx XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.
1. I have served in a psychiatry research institute for few years as chief radiologist and have come across many patients having mental illness of various types and in different age groups.
2. The main difference between a neurotic and psychotic is that the neurotic is aware of neuropsychological problems and is able to take care of one self and feel themselves a part of the real world. The psychotic on the other hand is not aware of the problems they have and show constant symptoms over a long time and have difficulty in perceiving the real world.
3. If neurosis is not diagnosed on time and treated regularly then there is a high risk of turning to psychosis.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
Regards,
If you continue treatment and counseling then less chance of schizophrenia
Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxx XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing back with an update.
1. The condition of OCD neurosis is quite common. It is said that most people do have an OCD tendency at some point in life and might have symptoms for some days of weeks and this happens due to anxiety. Some people are unable to control symptoms and therefore progress to OCD neurosis.
2. Speaking about schizophrenia, it is multifactorial and there is no single cause. I myself have done research on brain imaging in schizophrenia patients and found that certain groups with features on CT scan have a higher tendency but this does mean that every person with those features will have schizophrenia.
3. Coming you your condition, if you are able to discuss your problem with your psychiatrist in detail and accept the recommended treatment and also control your symptoms then there is less risk of turning to schizophrenia. However I hope your initial diagnosis is right and you have explained your problems in detail to your doctor. If you ignore your symptoms and do not follow up with your doctor regularly then the chances of schizophrenia and any psychotic disorder increases.
Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
