Can One Get Lower Eyelashes After An Eye Surgery?
Question: I just had surgery to remove a XXXXXXX cell carcinoma from my lower eyelid. The surgeon had to take 60% of my eyelid, more than anyone originally expected. Will I ever have lower eyelashes again?
Brief Answer:
Depends on how much of eyelash roots were removed
Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for your query.
The eyelashes grow out of eyelash roots or follicles on the eyelid margin. As long as the roots are intact, eyelashes can grow back. So, it depends on how much of the margin, along with its eyelash roots, was removed. If I take it as 60%, the rest 40% remains. But obviously this much will not be able to cover the entire margin. And the new margin produced as a result of surgery will not grow new roots, so there will be no eyelashes there.
Hope I am able to answer your query. I will be available to answer further followup queries, if any.
